Vila Sol Golf has twice played host to the Portuguese Open in 1992 and 1993 and is the first course designed by English golf architect Donald Steel in Portugal. The Vila Sol Golf Resort has three nine hole loops (the Prime, the Challenge and the Prestige). The natural undulating terrain of the area has been preserved and as a result there are superb views from the 4th, 5th, and 6th tees, as well as the elevated tee on the 13th hole. The golf course was ranked 8th best in Portugal by Golf Digest Magazine (USA) in April 2005.
