Golf Courses:
Carvoeiro Pestana has two superb Ron Fream of Golfplan USA designed courses and the David Leadbetter Academy adorn this excellent resort making it a great option for an Algarve golf holiday in Portugal.
The Val da Pinta course was opened for play in 1992, and has already earned a reputation for its excellent condition and as a testing layout. Bermuda grass has been imported to make sure that the fairways are the finest condition, and the well protected Penn Cross Bent greens are excellent. The par 71, 6,728 yard layout is really one for the golf connoisseur with most of the par 4 and par 5s utilising a dogleg, putting a major emphasis on accurate driving. Water hazards come into play affecting four holes on the front nine.
The Quinta da Gramacho - Pinta's sister course - is the second 18 hole championship course located at Pestana Carvoeiro Golf Club. It is also one of only a few courses in the world with 18 sets of tees and fairways but 27 greens. Designed by Ron Fream and the legendary Nick Price, the 6,679 yard course uses existing features of the land such as outcrops of rock, dry stone walls, fig, almond, carob and olive trees, as well as bunkers and lakes. These hazards are combined with the shaping of the fairways and greens to produce a fantastic selection of challenging and picturesque golf holes.
As well as two courses the resort has the David Leadbetter Academy, which he personally selected and trained a team of world class instructors to communicate the Leadbetter philosophy to people of all ages and abilities around the world.
Hotel Accommodation:
The resort's well-appointed and stylish accommodation consists of 115 apartments and 169 villas set in superbly maintained gardens. Both forms of accommodations are brightly and comfortably furnished and come with spacious, fully equipped kitchens, bathrooms, satellite TV, direct dial telephone, washing machine and central heating. All the apartments have access to a communal pool with the villas having their own, private pools. Apart from the excellent golf, the resort boasts two tennis courts, eight bowling greens, a 5-a-side soccer pitch, a basketball court, and swimming pools as well as a bar and restaurant in the clubhouse. There is also the nearby village of Carvoeiro where there are a variety of bars and restaurants. Pestana has several beaches within 5 km as well as horse riding and water sports activities nearby - it is also very well situated for sightseeing trips to Monchique, Silves, Lagos and Sagres.
