One of the legends of the golf world, The Belfry is unique in its
offer of the ultimate golfing experience. Home to the famous Brabazon
Course, which has witnessed the action of four Ryder Cup Matches and
numerous European Tour tournaments, it is unquestionably one of the world's
most famous golfing resorts.
The Brabazon course
Par – 72 Yardage – 7153
Course designer – Dave Thomas and Peter Alliss
Legendary in the world of golf, The Brabazon course has tested many of the game’s greats and is regarded as an outstanding championship course. Having hosted The Ryder Cup Matches an unprecedented four times and home to over 25 tournaments in its 30 year history, it is a course every golfer aspires to play.
The 10th and 18th are two of the most recognisable holes in golf, which only complement an all round world-class course. Be challenged by undulating greens, tight fairways and water hazards that appear on no less than twelve holes. On-going investment has seen the 6th hole undergo major changes to become one of the great holes in golf, along with many other design changes to keep The Brabazon as one of the UK’s leading golf courses.
PGA National course
Par – 72 Yardage – 7053
Course designer – Dave Thomas
Opened in 1997, the PGA National is set to become one of the top courses in the country. Having hosted two PGA European Tour Seniors Events it offers a challenge not to be underestimated.
Recognised by the PGA as a world-class tournament course, the PGA National is one of only three PGA branded courses in the British Isles and the only course to hold this honour in England. A test of golf that should be experienced by all golfers with a passion for the game.
The golf course has an American links-style feel and to the eye appears to be fairly open, however over 70 strategically placed bunkers with faces up to 15ft in height will severely punish any wayward shots. Measuring just 100 yards shorter than The Brabazon course and with par 3s of up to 224 yards, this course will test even the lowest handicappers.
The Derby course
Par – 69 Yardage - 6057
Course designer – Dave Thomas and Peter Alliss
Opened in 1977 The Derby course offers golfers a test of golf round a parkland design. A number of long, intricate holes are balanced by shorter risk-and-reward challenges, whilst all require a delicate touch around the green. This is complemented by expansive views over the Midland’s countryside and a wide range of tree species and wildlife.
The course has recently seen the introduction of 500 additional trees, which have been re-located by The Belfry’s ‘tree spade’ from The Brabazon to further enhance The Derby course’s design and definition.
Golfers are required to be accurate from the tee as the course is surrounded by ‘out of bounds’, appearing on over half of the holes. Mixed with clever bunkering and small undulating greens, The Derby demands good club selection and a solid course management.
