Fota Island is just a short drive from Cork City, which is Ireland's second largest city and ideally located in Ireland's southwest region. Fota Island's great golfing neighbours include the likes of Ballybunion, Killarney and Waterville to name just a few however this traditional parkland golf course has build a reputation all of its own over the last 10 years.

The golf course at Fota Island is kept in immaculate condition year round and many view the greens at Fota Island as the finest anywhere in Ireland. The club is located within a 780 acre estate, which also houses the Fota Island Wildlife Park and is included in the "Inventory of Outstanding Landscapes of Ireland", while the splendid woodland and water features combine to create a challenging layout. Arguably one of the toughest parkland challenges in the whole of Ireland, Fota Island was the venue for the 2001 and 2002 Murphy's Irish Open. A classic championship venue, Fota has also hosted the Irish PGA Championship and no fewer than three Irish Amateur Opens, and most recently the Irish Seniors Open in 2006.
